Children come to our home at all ages and different life experiences. Pray that as we share the gospel with them and demonstate the love of Jesus that they will come to know him for themselves and would grow into godly men and women.
-
Pray for Lys’ health and endurance. She has been sick much over the last few years and the additional work and caring for the children has been taking a toll on her.
-
We have prayed much over the last few years that God would bring another Christian couple to live at the home and help carry the load of caring for the spiritual, physical and academic needs of the children. Funds to be able to do this is a big obstacle.
Pray
-
Strength and wisdom for Santos and Lys as they work together to raise these kids and manage money well. Pray that they will turn to the Lord for all their needs, and rest in him.
-
Rosamel and Xiomara are pursuing University next year. Pray that God will lead in that and open doors and make provision if it is his will for them to attend university.
-
Pray that as the Mentors from Gracia go out to the Refuge their time with the children would yield sweet and deep relationships, so that they are able to speak into their lives with the love and wisdom of God’s word.
Support Financially
Monthly Sponsorship
Please consider a monthly sponsorship—any amount is helpful! We hope to double our current sponsorship to be able to meet the monthly needs of the home. Inflation and additional expenses have hit the Belen Refuge hard and additional sponsorships are greatly needed.
-
Select one of the amounts below or choose a custom amount. Once on the Gospel Grace Church website you can enter your information and set up a recurring donation.
-
100% of your donation is sent to the Belen Refuge Home each month to help provide for the daily needs of the children, including food, utilities, school supplies and fees, healthcare, and the many other needs that arise periodically or unexpectedly.
-
We ask that you commit to sponsor on a monthly basis for one year. At the end of your year commitment, if you would like to commit to another year of sponsorship that would be wonderful. Working with yearly commitments allows for the Refuge to be able to depend on that support throughout the year while giving you the reevaluation time every year to decide if you are able to recommit. Your commitment can begin in any month and last for the next 12 months.
One Time Donation
A one time gift is very helpful! We are working towards raising money for specific needs of the home. One time donations will be used for these projects; they are listed below in priority order. Check back on the UPDATE page to be able to see as we complete these projects.

As you can see in the video below the house that Santos and Lys currently live in needs work. Their desire is to repair that house and add a large living room where everyone in the Refuge is able to gather in one room for devotions, studies and to spend time together. The house does not currently have a bathroom and needs one. A contractor has drawn up the plans for this project and estimated the cost to be $23,000.
-
The Refuge home currently does not have a way to transport all the children. The little blue Nissan that you see at the beginning of the video below is the only vehicle they currently have. Santos starts early on Sunday morning driving the 30 minutes back and forth between the Refuge and their church to get all the children there for service. There also is no public transportation for school so he does the same thing every weekday taking the children to and from school. Having a van that would fit everyone would also allow them to take the Children to Iglesia Gracia (which is over an hour away) to be able to connect more with the mentors and members of the church there.
-
The goal for this project is to have a room where the children can learn employable skills like sewing, woodworking or coding. The plan is to use the space above the boys dorm for this purpose. The biggest cost in this project would be the purchase of the machines and computers.

Tim Chapman connected Gospel Grace Church with the Belen Refuge and in 2020 Gospel Grace began to partner financially with the Belen Refuge by raising $13,000 to help build the current boys dorm. Compelled by James 1:27 and God’s compassionate heart for the fatherless, the following year a monthly sponsorship program through Gospel Grace began where individual members of the church committed to support the home on a monthly basis and the church arranged to facilitate the monthly transfers to the Belen Refuge Home. Others from outside the church have joined in sponsoring the Belen Refuge through Gospel Grace and anyone is welcome to donate to help care for the needs of the children at the Belen Refuge.
-
Any donation to the Belen Refuge home given through Gospel Grace is tax deductible and 100% is sent to the home each month to help provide for the children. If you would like an end of year Contribution Statement sent to you for tax purposes please make sure to enter your mailing address and email on the Gospel Grace Church donation link.
-
Oversight and accountability of all donations is done by a team of elders at Iglesia Bautista Gracia and The Belen Refuge Home provides the team with quarterly financial reports of how the donations have been spent. Please feel free to email with any questions.
Walk through of the Belen Refuge
This video shows the current facilities of the Belen Refuge Home and describes some of the needs and plans for the future. When Gospel Grace Church and Iglesia Bautista Gracia first began partnering financially with the Belen Refuge nothing in this video existed except the first small house that Santos and Lys currently live in. At that time all of the children also lived in that small house with them. Praise the Lord for his provision and how he has worked through several different churches, individuals and the faithfulness and good stewardship of Santos and Lys to provide for the needs of these children. There has been wonderful progress made on the facilities, however as you can see, there is still much more to be done.
